Outdoor Photography Locations in St. John’s

St. John’s gives us a lot to work with: ocean, colour, old streets, open sky, greenery, and weather that can change the feeling of a session in minutes. When someone asks for the “best” place for photographs, I usually start with a different question: what do you want the photographs to feel like?

These five places are useful starting points for couples, engagements, portraits, and family sessions. They are not a promise that every session belongs in every location. We’ll still consider weather, access, privacy, mobility, time of day, and whether the setting feels like you.

1. Cape Spear

Cape Spear can suit a session that feels open, coastal, and a little windswept. The atmosphere is more important than a perfect pose here: layers, comfortable shoes, and room to move matter. Softer light and calmer conditions may make the experience more comfortable, so timing and the forecast are part of the plan.

2. Signal Hill

Signal Hill is worth considering when you want a sense of height, distance, and the wider St. John’s landscape. It can bring more exposure to wind and weather, which makes wardrobe and accessibility conversations especially useful before the session.

3. Quidi Vidi Village

Quidi Vidi can add a more textured, coastal-neighbourhood feeling. The colours, paths, and water can create variety without needing to move far. We would plan respectfully around other people and the conditions on the day.

4. Bannerman Park

Bannerman Park is a gentle option for people who want greenery, paths, and a setting that feels closer to the city. It can work well for families, portraits, and couples who want movement without a dramatic coastal backdrop.

5. Jellybean Row

Jellybean Row brings colour and an unmistakably St. John’s sense of place. It is a good conversation starter for couples or branding photographs that want more visual character. We’ll keep the session considerate of residents, visitors, and the public nature of the streets.
