What to Expect from a Photography Session
A relaxed session is less about performing for the camera and more about giving yourself room to be present.
It’s completely normal to feel a little uncertain before being photographed. Most people are not used to having a camera close by, and you don’t need to arrive knowing what to do with your hands or how to pose.
My job is to make the process feel simple. We talk through what you’re celebrating, choose a setting that fits, and leave enough room for real movement and conversation. The photographs can then feel like you, rather than a performance of what a photo session is supposed to look like.
Before we meet
We start with a conversation about the kind of photographs you want and how you want the session to feel. That might be quiet and close, playful and energetic, polished for a brand, or somewhere in between.
We can also talk through timing, clothing, accessibility, weather, and location options around St. John’s. You do not need to have every detail decided before reaching out. A clear starting point is enough.
During the session
I’ll give direction when it helps, but I’m not looking for stiff, repeated poses. We might walk, lean, sit, talk, take a pause, or return to something that felt natural. Small movements give your hands somewhere to go and create space for genuine expressions.
If you arrive nervous, that’s okay. We can take a few minutes to settle in. The first photographs do not have to be the best photographs; they are simply part of getting comfortable.
You don’t have to be “good” at photos. You only need to show up as yourself. The session is built around gentle direction, honest interaction, and enough breathing room to let the image happen.
After the session
After we finish, I’ll select the images that tell the strongest story and edit them in my warm, light, and quietly cinematic style. Your finished photographs are delivered through a private online gallery, where you can view, save, and share them.
Three things that help
- Wear something you can move comfortably in.
- Bring one or two meaningful details if they belong to the story.
- Let me know what makes you feel self-conscious so I can guide the session with care.
Common questions
Do I need to know how to pose?
No. I’ll guide you when it helps, but the session is built around movement, conversation, and natural moments.
What happens after the session?
I’ll carefully select and edit the photographs, then deliver the finished images through a private online gallery.
Can we talk about a location before booking?
Yes. Location, timing, weather, accessibility, and the feeling you want are all useful parts of the planning conversation.
If you’re thinking about a portrait, couples, family, branding, graduation, birthday, wedding, or event session, check availability and tell me what you’re planning.
